hotel BLUE’s Guide to The Market Common

Myrtle Beach is home to a plethora of shopping and dining experiences, in a variety of setups and concepts. The newest addition to your options is The Market Common. Located just south of Hotel Blue, it is a convenient outing during your vacation. The Market Common is located off the beaten path between U.S. 17 and Business 17 also known as Kings Highway.

The unique style and design of this shopping and dining center makes you feel like you are in a completely different city. Set-up like an urban New York Style community, The Market Common has apartments above all of the shops and restaurants.

The shops range from upscale to everyday and well known to specialty. There is even a Farmer’s Market every Saturday during the spring and summer! A couple of shops we recommend are Coastal Urge, Dove Olive Oil Company, and Breathe Pieces of the Soul.

Coastal Urge caters to the outdoor enthusiast, selling a variety of apparel from brands such as The North Face and Southern Tide, among many more prominent brands. You can also purchase or rent bikes, paddleboards, and skateboards. Coastal Urge also offers guided paddleboard excursions.

Dove Olive Oil Company is a specialty foods store, centered on infused olive oils. You will also find natural homemade pasta sauces and handmade pasta. Pick up your favorite spices and sauces when you stop in! We love this store for its quality and preservative free products.

Breathe is our favorite stop to make at The Market Common! When you step into Breathe, you instantly see local artists work showcased, and if you love a piece, you are able to purchase it! They also have handmade jewelry and other fun pieces. Breathe offers delicious coffee beverages as well as a Wi-Fi lounge.  However maybe the best part about Breathe, is that they offer art classes, and wine and art classes! Gather up your friends and paint a masterpiece!

You can find some awesome eats at The Market Common. It is hard to believe, but they offer a pretty varied restaurant selection from Mexican to Italian and American to Japanese, in a relatively small area. Our favorites are Gordon Biersch, Nacho Hippo and CO Sushi.

Gordon Biersch is well known for its year round and seasonal microbrews. They have a great Happy Hour menu and delicious appetizers. Try the Mediterranean Nachos or the Hummus Trio, you will be very impressed.

Nacho Hippo is a trendy Mexican restaurant with American touches and an astounding tequila collection! Nacho Hippo serves up a heaping platter of nachos in a variety of combinations, we recommend the Hipponachomus. The quesadillas are also a huge hit.

CO Sushi is the newest addition to Market Common and so far our new favorite. They offer a variety of sushi not seen at other sushi restaurants, and the dumplings are noteworthy. We have been absolutely raving over the Vietnamese Ramen, it is a must try. Stop in for their $4 Happy Hour Monday through Friday for some unbelievably good cocktails!

The Market Common is somewhat out of the way, but we think that’s a great thing! Step outside your normal Myrtle Beach routine and head to The Market Common, this might be your new must do!
